A forum for the creative community to network, develop their skillset, and test their creativity through friendly monthly challenges.

The Story of AZPHOCO

ORIGINS OF AZPHOCO

Co-Founder | Creative Director | Operations Director | Branding Strategist | Digital Media DiRECTOR | PhotographER |

Azphoco was the brain child of Aneesah Gondo and Jeff Otto. The idea for Azphoco first started from a drunk converstation between a group of friends working and vacationing in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. As photographers and creative content creators, they felt there was a lack of healthy collaborative opportunities for creators in Arizona. It was a divided network constantly growing further and further apart. With this realization, they decided to find a way to bridge all the different communities together.

The idea for Azphoco was to host monthly themed events and challenges. Creative individuals, such as photographers, models, designers, stylists, makeup artists, and hair stylists, were encouraged to join the events and challenges to collaborate, network, and learn together in a healthy environment.

THE LAUNCH

A Forum for the Creative Community

Azphoco began as a simple monthly themed photography challenge hosted through social media.

A theme would be announced on the first of every month. Participants had that month to create a vision, organize the project, and then execute it. On the last day of every month, they would submit their work. Azphoco would then showcase their work on social media, at which point a voting process would begin to determine a winner.

The voting process would consist of two parts, a popular vote run through comments on Instagram, and a judge panel vote consisting of a panel of five judges.

THEMED CHALLENGES

On the first of every month, a theme would be randomly generated. The goal was to challenge any creatives who participated. They would enter a competition blind. Once a theme was announced, they had full creative liberty to interpret the theme however they want. There was no limitation on their creative development and creative process.

The theme might be something the creatives are familiar with, or something new to them. Regardless, their challenge was to use their skillset and creative process to build a concept of their own pertaining to the set theme.

Creatives could go any direction they wanted with the theme. With this in mind, Azphoco was task with announcing monthly themes without leading the creatives in any specific direction. To allow creative freedom, Azphoco had to leave it’s own interpretations of the themes out. Therefore, the assets used to announce the themes were also broad and open for interpretation.

This allowed full creative liberty. The only guideline was it needed to tie into the theme somehow.
